Chikanobu was a prolific woodblock printmaker. Some of his prints were sold individually while others were sold as a set in a picture book. Chikanobu’s usual subject was beautiful women but in one of these picture books, entitled Jūni Hito-e (i.e., Twelve Prints in Sequence) and published in 1897-8, flowers and (or) birds were also included in the book’s twelve scenes. These twelve pictures are included in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Most Japanese artists chose to draw pictures of people OR flowers-birds, not both as in this picture book.
